50 Years in Masonry for Ron Clark

 Prescot Mason Ron Clark recently celebrated 50 years in Masonry at Prescot Masonic Hall surrounded by his many friends and colleagues.

Ron was born on 4th December 1932 in Everton Liverpool. The family moved to Maghull in 1937 where Ron attended St Andrews CE Junior School. Then Walton Junior Technical College and Liverpool College of Technology. Ron holds a HNC in electrical engineering and an ONC in mechanical engineering plus endorsements and has patents filed under his name. 

His working career started with a five year indentured apprenticeship from the age of 15½. At the age of 21½ he started National Service and served 12 months in Mönchengladbach before he was demobbed. A keen football player Ron had played for all his schools as well as the 11th Armoured Division Signal Regiment and the British Army of the Rhine. His demob papers are endorsed “Plays a good game of football”. 

After he was demobbed he worked in the BICC Prescot drawing office, later moving to the Wire Mill and then to British Copper Refiners in Prescot for the modernisation programme. In 1978 he moved to British American Tobacco in a managerial position and in 1991 he was appointed Company Electrical Engineer. Ron retired in 1998 aged 65½, he could have retired at 60. 

Ron started courting his wife Nora in 1957 and they married at St Nicholas Church Whiston on the 20th June 1959, the reception was held at the Fleece Hotel St Helens. Ron has a son Gary, who is also a member of Prescot Lodge, and three granddaughters. 

He was secretary of Pilkington Harriers when Gary was running in the 1970s. Ron has also been a choirboy for St Andrews Maghull and a Boy Scout Leader for the 1st Maghull and the 7th Ormskirk group. 

Ron was proposed as a member of Precot Lodge by Ted Pitt his Father in Law and seconded by Jimmy Antwis. There have been several of his family members in the Craft including Keith Pitt  and Henry Birchall his Brothers in Law and his Great Uncle Arthur who was a Widnes Mason. He was initiated into Prescot Lodge on the 1st April 1963 after a wait of  three years. He was Worshipful Master in 1975 which he says was one of the highlights of his Masonic career. He has been Group Representative for Prescot Lodge for the last 27 years and has also served as Secretary for the past 11 years and served 10 years as Lodge DC. 

His Provincial Honours came in October 1984 with Appointment to P.Pr.S.G.D. and promotion to P.Pr.J.G.W. in October 1993 and P.Pr.S.G.W. in May 2009. Another highlight of his Masonic Career was when he was appointed Captain of Stewards for Provincial Grand Lodge in 2011 having previously served as a Team Leader and as Sec. to Executive (David Fairclough Captain of Stewards). 

Ron was Exhalted into Antient Manor Chapter 4511 on 29th March 1976 and was M.E.Z. in 1985, he has been Treasurer for 26 years. He was appointed to P.Pr.P.G.Soj. in November 1990 and promoted to P.Pr.G.S.N. in May 1999. He is also a member of Loyalty Chapter  897. 

Ron was perfected into St Helens Rose Croix Chapter 391 in November 1987 and was M.W.S. in 2000. He was appointed to the 30th degree in July 2001, he has served as Treasurer for the last 8 years. He is also a founding member of Mount of Olives Chapter 1192. Ron has also served as Secretary to the Board of Directors of Prescot Masonic Hall for the last 13 years.
